FAQ
General
- Motivation
This toolbox was born out of our need for a robust, reliable, and economical tool for developing our own trading stategy based on technical analysis. When we were looking for a tool to do this in Matlab®, we found two things: 1.) The Financial Toolbox for Matlab®, which is expensive, and did not specifically address our needs 2.) Scripts from usergroups, freeware, etc... basically, you get what you pay for. Trying to put together, debug, and modify a smattering of scripts from the web is time consuming and innefficient. So, we started from scratch and developed our own tools with proper documentation. We have developed a robust toolbox that allows users to perform technical analysis and stategy development in Matlab® with confidence in the underlying tools.
Requirements
- What are the system requirements?
The Technical Analysis Toolbox requires Matlab® Version 7.6 (R2008a) or above. It has been tested on Windows XP and Vista platforms. Although we have not yet tested on Mac or Linux platforms, the toolbox should run on any platform that can run Matlab® Version 7.6 (R2008a) or above, as it does not rely on Windows specific functionality. -
- Is Matlab® Version 7.6 (R2008a)
or above all I need?
Yes! No other toolboxes are required. -
- Will it work with a proxy server?
If you use a proxy server, you must configure it as shown here: "How can I configure my proxy server settings within MATLAB?"
License
- I am not the owner of the Matlab®
license. For example, I have an academic or corporate version
on my computer and my name is not explicity listed as the license
owner. Does this matter?
No. We do not verify license information, and we do not communicate with the MathWorks, Inc. in any way regarding any matter, including license verification.
- Is a demo/trial version available?
Yes! A 15 day trial version is available.
Technical
- Is the historical data adjusted for splits/dividends?
Yes. All historical data is normalized for splits and dividends. Additionally, if the '.update' method is used to update the historical data of a stockasset object, all data is retroactively adjusted if a split/dividend has occured during the update period.
